7th Grade Art
Students are exposed to various art histories, cultures, and techniques in 7th grade. All projects are inspired by a global theme. Art work from Asia, North America, Central America, Africa, and Europe inspire students in their artwork.

Tenth graders at ICA take an Art Appreciation class for one term as part of the liberal arts rotation in their schedule.This class has an art history focus. Students will focus on answering the following questions:
- What is art?
- Why do people make art?
- How has art changed over time? Why?
- What does art look like today and what are its roles in society?
Students will understand the answer to these questions by studying Ancient art making cultures, Renaissance Art, and Modern art movements.

Students also work to build skills on the potter's wheel, practicing a variety of forms and techniques.

- Hollow ceramic characters/animals
- Slab built lidded containers
- Slab built lanterns using piercing techniques

Students in the course work through an intensive curriculum that deals with issues of design and deal extensively with the principles and elements of design. Work produced in this course is made using any 2-D surfaces/techniques (drawing, photography, painting, collage, digital media, etc.) and strive to achieve heightened technical and conceptual ability.
Students work to create a personal portfolio which at the end of the year serves as their exam for the AP College Board. The portfolio is assessed and given a grade, which if applicable, could count towards college credits.
